Bed

Performance and photography

This performance and its documentation utilise glass to manipulate and expose our most intimate space. The artist stripped her bedroom of all personal belongings and comforts, leaving only a bedframe. The mattress was replaced with a large sheet of glass, upon which she slept for five consecutive nights.

The process is captured through photography showing a view from below the glass bed. This reveals the effect that glass has on the body, exposing the artist and her physical and emotional discomfort. Bed capitalises on glass’s intrinsic cultural, social and material properties.Though not able to touch the glass directly, the viewer is invited to imagine the phenomenological experience of sleeping on glass.
